Reduce bruising after Juvéderm
Bruising after dermal fillers is more common in some people than others. There are things you can do to reduce potential bruising.
For one week before, avoid aspirin, NSAIDs (Ibuprofen, Aleve, Motrin, etc.), St. John’s Wort, Vitamin E, Multivitamins (often contain Vitamin E), Fish Oils, Flaxseed Oils, Omega-3, Gingko, Ginseng, Garlic and Glucosamine.
Buy a fresh pineapple. It can be cut up by the store but must be fresh not frozen or canned. Eat half of the pineapple the day before your treatment. Pineapple contains bromelain which is felt to help decrease bruising. You can also buy bromelain in pill form, but pineapple is a better source.
DAY OF TREATMENT
Eat one quarter of the pineapple before you come in for treatment.
Eat the final quarter of your pineapple after your treatment.
Arnica gel is used in the office to reduce bruising. For convenience, we offer our patients the option to purchase VitaMedica’s anti-bruise kits ($36.00) that contain topical Arnica gel and oral tablets, or a 5 day oral Arnica Blister pack ($10). These are great to use after the treatment and can decrease the severity and longevity of bruising.
Gently Apply Cold packs (5 minutes on, 5 minutes off) for the first 6 hours to help reduce swelling and bruising.
For two days after, avoid aspirin, NSAID’s (Ibuprofen, Aleve, Motrin, etc.), St. John’s Wort, Vitamin E (including multivitamins with Vitamin E), Fish Oils, Flaxseed Oils, Omega-3, Gingko, Ginseng, Garlic and Glucosamine.
DO NOT MASSAGE. Foundation may be patted on.
Apply Arnica gel to the area 3 times a day until bruising and swelling has subsided.
Bruising may be covered with makeup. A good complete coverage is Dermablend Cover Cream (available at Ulta.com). Plan accordingly.
